There was a star danced, and under that was I born

Hey kids,

I’m going to apologize right off the bat for a post that is going to be a ridiculous mishmash of thoughts, ideas, pictures, and song.

It’s like a “we need to eat these leftovers before they go bad” casserole, over here.

I’m throwing anything and everything into this dish. So just let me know if you need some ketchup, or BBQ sauce, or what have you.

I’ll be on it.

It is Monday after all.

And, do you know how I know dear readers, that today was in fact a Monday?

I’ll tell you.

You see, this was my breakfast:

Corrrrrr....YES.

And this was my lunch:

MAH NOMS.

Not exactly the healthiest of choices, heavens no, but certainly one of the tastiest. I know I’ve written about these apple fritters before, and I just need to reiterate one more time just how fricken stellar they truly are.

And because they are the size of a small cat, they pretty much count as two meals in one.

I know, I know – NOT HEALTHY!

But oh, so delicious.

Because I’m running around at work like a running around working thing, today at lunch I made an effort to pry myself away from my desk and go for a walk.

When I’m not laughing myself into six pack abs trying on the absolute barmiest outfit combinations I can find, I like to torture myself by modelling all the beautiful pieces of clothing I will never be able to afford.

Sometimes I stroll through Holt Renfrew at a snail’s pace, staring into the Prada showroom, devouring all the couture gowns that hang off of the mannequins, or are draped over banquettes and loveseats (or the arms of a wealthy patron.)

I tell you, it’s a pretty interesting sensation to ride the escalator behind someone whose bloody SUNGLASSES are worth more than your entire ensemble.

It’s also a little scary.

Today I tried on this skirt from Club Monaco.

Sparkles! Pleats! LOVE!

I must say that I kind of really loved it.

AND, it was sixty percent off – though by no means cheap (even still after the discount), it had pleats and sparkles, which are pretty much my favourite things ever when it comes to clothing accoutrements, so I think I will have to go back tomorrow and purchase it.

As long as I don’t find something even more sparkly and pleated in the interim.

(I’m a bit like a hummingbird in that way. My attention span can be quickly taken over by -Ooerrr…SHINEY THINGS!)

Speaking of moving from one thing to the next without absolutely zero transition, please,  PLEASE, listen to this song by Sarah Slean, about which I currently cannot get enough of:

I have been a dancing woman since getting home today, listening to it on repeat.

(I don’t even know how many times I’ve listened to it while writing this post. I’ve completely lost count.)

If I was currently using my ipod at the gym, this would be the only thing on my running playlist.

It actually makes me so happy I feel like crying.

And I know that’s pretty cheesy and all, and sometimes I feel like I oscillate wildly from one emotion to the next, and I do regularly find myself so overcome by events that transpire all over the world (pretty much to the point of paralysis), but I am also aware of how much beauty I have in my life, and how fortunate I am in so many ways.

Despite of course, having two-toned hair from my (continually craptastic) dye job.

The seal is for marksmanship and the gorilla is for sand racing.

Seriously guys, what is wrong with me? How am I so, SO bad at this?

Yikes.

In the meantime, however, let’s just keep dancing.

And eating apple fritters.

And sparkling. Like stars.

Until the day we supernova; fade away.

  1. Mmmm, apple fritters. Bad ones are bad, good ones are MUST EAT THEM ALL BEFORE THEY ARE GONE FOREVER.

I just finished thinking yesterday “I really should just start a blog post in the morning, keep it in DRAFT, and post as I go, instead of going POST POST POST POST POST POST POST POST ohsorryaboutallthepostsguysPOST.”

I’ll forget that the next time I post things, of course. But it was a thought.

The most important thing about fucked up hair is to remember the slogan of the Fucked Up Hair Club: I Did This On Purpose, Guys, It’s A Serious Political/Social/Socio-Political Statement About ______. Or tell people who question you that some of us are still young enough to experiment and laugh it off when the results Aren’t As Intended.

Or just hire a gorilla to punch anyone who looks at you funny.

And if you find a place that actually does hire out gorillas for such purposes, please let me know.

    1. I don’t really know what else to say except YOU MAKE ME LAUGH. Seriously, you crack me up.

And I will now be describing my hair as avant garde. I’m an icon gosh darnit!

      1. Making people laugh is my superpower. If a villain was robbing a bank, I’d make a snarky remark and he’d still be in tears on the floor at my stunning display of wit when the police came to pick him up. As they dragged him away in handcuffs, he’d be heard to exlaim “I wou… I w… I wAAAAAAHAHAHAHAAAA… … I would have gotten… I … HAAAAAA HA HA! gotten away with it if … BAAAAAAAAA HA HA HA if that HA HA HA pesky… HA HA HAAAAAA oh god… oh god my stomach-”

Then he’d drop dead from laughing and I’d go to jail for manslaughter and possibly even get mentioned on a wiki page.

You know who else fucks with their hair? Lady Gaga. She’s so rich she doesn’t have to give a damn, right? You’re not rich (I realize I am making rather a large assumption here, I assure you) and you still don’t give a damn. That makes you cooler than Lady Gaga.

  2. 1. I hope I don’t seem like a creeper for responding literally 3 seconds after you post this – but I keep logging into Facebook to procrastinate, and hey, a new blog post! :)

    2. OMG Club Monaco my favourite store…That skirt looks great on you! I like it with that top. Do you still have a valid student card? CM gives students 20% off everything, including sale stuff in the sale secrion (but not on markdowns, which I think is a different thing?)

    3. I saw Sarah Slean open for Rufus Wainwright, what seems like yonks ago…she was very bubbly and entertaining. A wee bit too musical theatre-y for me, but she was a great pianist and vocalist.

    4. Ahhh I have a major craving for an apple fritter right now. I would totally go to Starbucks and try to get one but I just bought pie…

    5. Ok, I’ll get back to work now.

    1. You know me, I am never one to judge! And sheesh, if anyone knows about Facebook procrastination, I am her.

I realllllly think I am going to go back for that skirt today. And thank you for telling me about the discount! Good to know, good to know!

I cannot stop listening to this song. For shizz, it is stuck in my brain forever. What kind of pie? yuuuummm…

So looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!
      xx

  3. sarah slean is a goddess. i saw her at the rio, had front row. she’s ridiculously talented, gorgeous, amazing, beautiful, and married to royal wood, another phenomenal canadian singer/songwriter. that whole land/sea double album is mindblowing. life-affirming. *sigh*…anyway. i feel connected to you via this song! yay! also: go buy that skirt.

  4. “sometimes I feel like I oscillate wildly from one emotion to the next, and I do regularly find myself so overcome by events that transpire all over the world (pretty much to the point of paralysis), but I am also aware of how much beauty I have in my life, and how fortunate I am in so many ways.”

A delightful and inspirational quote. I read your entry on my phone before bed and that seemed like a perfect ending to my day. Thanks for sharing.

Also, we all need cheat-days. Their purpose is to remember why we don’t do them all the time as we go in a diebetic coma. (My ice cream sundaes of this month and what will forever be referred to as “the birthday cake” incident of last month are recent examples.)

I turned down sophaphilla cheesecake from H’s mom on Sunday because I was too sugar-hungover. I’m sure this will help strengthen your resolve for other sugary confections.

    1. Ooer…what kind of cheesecake was it? I have a super high tolerance for sugar, so when I overdo it, it’s the hangover from hell and back. It’s good that as much as I have a mega sweet tooth, I also have a mega garden tooth, so I have some balance going on. Also: Fiber is my friend.

And thank you! I actually had a message on my answering machine at work from my big sis saying the same thing. It makes my little heart smile :)

  5. Ah! This is just too much awesomeness in one post! I really love all the randomness. :)
The apple fritter looks like amazingness and trouble all rolled into one doughy, sugary pile of happy. Yum!
And the skirt, you will definitely have to buy – looks great! And who can possibly say no to pleats and sparkles and Club Monaco?
The dress and cardigan are so cute, totally inspired. Though I’m sorry the hair has been so difficult. :( Maybe another round of color will set you up?

    1. Thanks beauty! I am a random monster sometimes, so I figure I just have to go with the flow.

Exactly right!? I am definitely going back today, and check it out again.

Haha, no worries about the hair. It’s only in really bright, direct sunlight (like in the photo) that you can really tell what’s going on, so I’ll just ride it out until the next round. And then I’m paying someone to do it for me! :)

  6. I love finding new songs that make me as happy as that song makes you! Your post makes me think of one of my favorite makes-me-want-to-cry-with-its-greatness songs which says, “We’re the heirs to the glimmering world…”

A friend of mine was giving me feedback while I was putting the finishing touches on a wedding cake and revealed that one of her life’s mottos is: “SPARKLES!!”
